Upper Peninsula Energy Task Force Submits First Phase Of Report

The Upper Peninsula Energy Task Force has submitted the first part of their report to Governor Whitmer on propane availability in the U.P.

The task force submitted 14 recommendations to various state departments including the state legislature, the Department of Technology, Management and Budget, the Public Service Commission and Department of Health and Human Services.

Some of the recommendations included exploring the creation of a customer storage incentive, during heating season.

Inquiring whether the state could contract for propane in a manner that would create a strategic propane reserve, that would be available in case of a disruption and review assistance programs to determine if more families in need could be identified sooner, under self sufficiency programs.

The task force now moves onto the second phase of their report, which is formulating alternative solutions to meeting the U.P.’s energy needs, with a focus on security, reliability, affordability and environmental soundness.
