Marquette – Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is encouraging homeowners, excavators and contractors to keep safety at the forefront by making a free call to Miss Dig at 8-1-1 or 800-482-7171 at least three working days before engaging in any digging activities.
Contacting Miss Dig by phone or at www.missdig.org sets in motion a process in which appropriate utility companies are notified of an upcoming project that will involve digging. Professional locators are then sent to the requested digging site to mark the approximate locations of underground lines with flags, paint or both. Contacting Miss Dig, Michigan’s free and easy-to-use utility notification system, can help prevent striking underground utilities which can lead to serious injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient service interruptions.
