UPDATE–Police Search For Suspect Who Shot Woman In Gwinn

UPDATE — Due to inconsistencies revealed in the ongoing investigation of the shooting on Tuesday, April 9, the Forsyth Township Police Department wants to reiterate there is no threat to the community.

According to officers, it does not appear that there was ever a suspect in the case.

Based on information provided from the original phone call, officers took all precautions to ensure the safety of the community.

The soft lockdown of the school came as a result of its close proximity to the call location.

An investigation into a shooting at an Upper Peninsula residence continues Wednesday morning. Gwinn High School was put on lockdown Tuesday afternoon as police searched for a suspect who is believed to have shot a woman.

The Forsyth Township Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Stephenson Street in Gwinn shortly after 12:00pm for a report of a home invasion with an armed suspect. The suspect left the residence as the officers arrived on scene.

The officers found a woman at the residence who had been shot. They administered first aid on scene then had her taken to the hospital in an ambulance.  Her condition was not reported.

The search for the suspect began in the immediate area with the help of other local law enforcement officers. An emergency alert was sent out to local residents, but all alerts have been cancelled.

The case is still under investigation and police say there is no threat to the public. We will bring any updates as they become available.
