UPDATE: Columbus, Ohio, Murder Suspect May Be in the Keweenaw

UPDATE; Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services has announced that Columbus murder suspect, John Ferry was not on campus. The MTU public safety office says that at this time there is no reason to suspect that Ferry was on campus. Local law enforcement and MTU public safety had conducted a search for Ferry yesterday morning, concluding that he was not in the area. The public safety office has identified the person who was thought to be Ferry, confirming their identification.

Ferry had previously been banned from Michigan Tech’s campus, and in 2017 he was sentenced in Houghton County court for malicious destruction of public property, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm. In 2010 he was convicted for fleeing Laurium police. Ferry is wanted by the Columbus Division of Police in connection to the murder of Robert Marsh III in Columbus, Ohio on November 23rd.

Columbus Police Department investigators say 46-year-old John Michael Ferry is being sought in connection with the death of Robert Marsh III in their city on November 23rd.

Ferry has a history in our area, including a 2010 conviction for fleeing a Laurium police officer. In 2017, he pleaded “no contest” to charges of malicious destruction of property and assault in Houghton County, and was sentenced to state prison.
