UP Prison Loses Appeal

A UP Prison, has lost it’s appeal. Gogebic County’s Ojibway Prison, has lost it’s appeal to re-open.

The Appeals Court upheld the lower courts decision, that Marinesco County, failed to prove the state would have closed a different prison, based on economic impact.

The prison, employed 230 people, and will have a huge negative impact, on the community.

The State’s prison population has fallen from a high of 51,000 in 2007, to less than 39,000 today, which prompted the state to close several prisons, throughout the state in recent years.
