UP Health System Portage Takes On Kidney Stones

If you have kidney stones in the Keweenaw, life just got a little easier.

UP Health System Portage has announced they have added extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy to it’s urology services.

ESWL fragments kidney stones, allowing them to be passed naturally, with no need for surgery.

The shockwaves have varying frequencies and power levels, which allows for efficient treatment, with less pain.

The new procedure also keeps patients closer to home, and cuts recovery time.

Ryan Heinonen, Interim Chief Executive Officer said he was thrilled to be able to offer new technology to the community, advancing the high quality care we can bring to patients.
