UP Health System–Marquette Complete Move To New Hospital

Staff and patients at the new UP Health System—Marquette are settling into their facility.  Over 100 patients were moved safely to the new hospital on West Baraga Avenue on Sunday in only a few hours.

“We are pleased to have successfully completed our move into our new hospital,” said Brian Sinotte, chief executive officer of UP Health System – Marquette and market president for UP Health System, which includes hospitals in Marquette, Ishpeming and Hancock. “I’d like to thank our team and our partners who masterfully orchestrated the final phases of our move, including the transfer of patients this weekend. This was a significant and complex undertaking, and we are excited to be up and running in our new facility.”

The facility is now officially open and all services have been transitioned to the new hospital building.

The new UPHS-Marquette hospital is a nearly 525,000-square-foot, 8-story facility that offers the community easy access to a diverse range of healthcare services in one convenient location. Services available at the hospital include around-the-clock emergency services, surgical, pediatric and behavioral health care, women’s services, cancer care, cardiac care and laboratory and imaging services.

Created in collaboration with the community, the new facility was designed with patient experience in mind. It has an easy-to-navigate main concourse and intuitive wayfinding for patients and families and features private rooms, valet parking, wireless internet, a cafe and bistro, a gift shop and an atrium coffee barista.

The new hospital’s W. Baraga Ave. location is close to downtown and provides easy access to Washington Street and US 41.

“This is a great day for our hospital team and our community, marking the beginning of an exciting new era of healthcare in the Upper Peninsula,” said John Bartlett, MD, chair of the UPHS-Marquette board of directors. “This new hospital is the product of a lot of cooperation among so many across our region. We are thankful for the contributions of everyone involved, especially the UPHS-Marquette staff, who have been working for months to learn their new hospital while continuing to care for patients at the previous facility. Their dedication and diligence have ensured a seamless transition for everyone.”
