UP Blood Center in critical need of blood types

The UP Regional Blood Center is currently experiencing a critical need for O-pos, O-neg, and A-neg blood types.

Rachel Heath from the UP regional Blood Center says summertime usually brings a drop in donations as people enjoy the weather but the need does not.  “A lot of people are traveling on vacations, outside doing a lot of outdoor activities, getting hurt by car accidents, ATV’s, mountain biking—people just getting out more—and then another time is during the holidays. That’s also a very crucial time for needing blood,” said Heath.

Donations can be made at their center in Hancock and all donations made in the UP stay in the UP to support the region’s 13 hospitals.

Please see our website at www.mgh.org/blood for center details and blood drive locations.
