The unemployment rate in the Upper Peninsula fell in October.
The seasonally unadjusted rate dropped to 3.6 percent. That’s down from 4.0 percent in September, and just above the statewide rate of 3.5 percent.
Locally, Houghton County matched the 3.5 percent state average. Keweenaw County’s unemployment rate was 4.0 percent… Baraga County was at 4.5 percent… and Ontonagon County at 4.6 percent.
The best performer in the state was Ottawa County, at 2.3 percent. Most of the weakest figures again came from northeast lower Michigan, with Montmorency and Oscoda Counties both reporting unemployment over 6 percent.
