U.P. High School Students Win TRIO Scholarships

High School students from the Copper Country ISD, Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD and Forest Park Schools, have won $1,000 scholarships from the TRIO Talent Search from Finlandia University to attend Summer Youth Programs at Michigan Tech.

In all, 19 9th, 10th & 11th graders won the scholarships, offered by TRIO, through a Department of Education grant focusing on STEM awareness.

STEM is the acronym for science, technology, engineering and math.

The scholarships cover the costs of registration, room and board, transportation and any lab fees.

The students can look forward to 4 days of STEM and Robotic concepts, that may one day turn into a STEM related career.

The grant also included funds for updated STEM materials for students.

TRIO Talent Search assists students from low income families or are first generation students prepare for successful entry to the workforce, or further their education.
