Two Hurt in Slide-off Crash Near Tapiola

Two people were taken to UP Health System-Portage after a single-car crash Saturday afternoon on the Pelkie-Tapiola Road.

Houghton County Sheriff’s deputies say a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Pelkie girl passed another vehicle around 3:00, then slid out of control on the slushy road. The vehicle spun around several times, skidded about 100 feet along the roadside ditch, hit a driveway culvert, and careened another 100 feet before landing on its wheels in the ditch.

The driver and a 16-year-old Calumet boy were treated by Otter Lake First Responders, and sent to the hospital by ambulance.

Names of those involved and their conditions have not been released.
