Two Appointed To Library Board

The city of Houghton made two appointments to the Library Board at their regular meeting Wednesday.

Though there is currently only one open position on the board for the Portage Lake District Library, the pulling out of Chassell Township from the library district means Houghton will be able to appoint an additional board member.

The council had two applicants to choose from and selected Michigan Tech student Christopher Archer to fill the immediate open position.

When the additional spot on the board opens up in the near future, the second applicant Bob Kinnunen will fill that role.

The city just received a draft of the new library district agreement this week, which includes the new board composition.

City manager Eric Waara said he would bring the agreement before the city council for their approval after the city’s attorney has had a chance to review it.

In other businesses, plans for the new Houghton Skatepark are moving forward.

There will be a workshop on Tuesday, February 13th from 6-8pm at the Houghton City Center to meet with representatives of Spohn Ranch to discuss design of the skatepark.

Anyone interested in the skatepark is welcome to come and share their ideas.

And a new BBQ restaurant is almost set to open in Houghton.

Baby E’s BBQ is located in the Redridge Plaza and they boast wood fire smoked BBQ so tender a baby can eat it.

Decide for yourself, plans are to open in mid to late February.
