Truck Set On Fire After Wheels Stolen At Local Party Spot

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the arson of a motor vehicle and larceny from that vehicle.

The incident happened on Saturday at a well known local party spot called the “Sugar Bowl” near Copper City.

Just before 9:30 Saturday morning, a passerby walking the two track road about a mile north of the Copper City Road says he saw a 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab truck partly on fire and smoldering and called 911.

Authorities say a large party had taken place at the site the previous evening and early morning hours and the truck had been left at the scene by the owner, who said he ran out of gas and had to leave it there.

The vehicle suffered severe damage from the fire and was a total loss.

Prior to the fire, the suspect or suspects took the wheels and tires off the vehicle along with the license plate.  The wheels are the original Chevrolet wheels with unknown brand of tire.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department at (906) 482-0055.

The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by the Ahmeek Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department and Joe’s Towing.
