Trout Lake Shooting Suspect Charged With Homicide

The fatal shooting at a rental cabin in Chippewa County on Saturday is now being considered a homicide.

34-year-old Aaron Lee Roberts of Lansing was arrested and charged with one count of homicide and one count of felony firearm.

Roberts is accusing of killing 51-year-old Kevin James Belonga of St. Ignace, who was found dead at the scene in Trout Lake.

State police say when they arrived on scene, Roberts identified himself as “the shooter.”

The area was secured and Roberts was taken into custody without incident.

If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for August 23rd.
