Troopers Warn Of Phone Scam

Phone scams continue to try and trick you into giving out your personal information so criminals can steal you identity.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post have received numerous calls from residents about a possible phone scam.

In most cases, a pre-recorded message is left on the person’s answering machine or voicemail with a phone number and a warning that the resident must call back immediately.

The caller claims to be from the Social Security Administration and advises the resident that their Social Security number has been associated with a drug seizure or some other criminal activity.

These calls are not originating from the Social Security Administration and are likely an identity theft attempt.

Troopers would like to remind the public to be wary of any unsolicited telephone calls or mailings they may receive and to not give out or verify any personal information.

Hang up on the caller and do not respond to messages.
