Trick-or-Treating Begins Saturday With Trio Of Events

The streets in Houghton and Calumet will be filled with super heroes and goblins on this busy pre-Halloween weekend.

The 10th annual Treat Street takes place in Houghton from 4-6pm tomorrow.  Downtown businesses will be handing out treats, there will be a pumpkin carving and decorating contest, a homemade costume contest, and a haunted house at the City Center.  Stop at the City Center to get your free trick-or-treat bags, while supplies last.  Shelden Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic during the event.

Calumet will once again be hosting their Trunk or Treat event tomorrow from 5-7pm.  The 100 block of Fifth Street will be closed to traffic, so grownups can decorate their cars, and set up treats for the kids.  Many downtown merchants will also be offering treats and specials inside their stores.

There will be $50.00 cash prizes for the best-decorated vehicles by individuals and businesses.  Those wishing to park in the “Trunk or Treat” zone are encouraged to arrive beginning at 3:30, and no later than 4:45.

Main Street Calumet would also appreciate you letting them know you’ll be coming through their website, but signing up is not required.  For more details, or to sign up, click here.

And if you’d rather do your Trick-or-Treating indoors, you can roam the residential halls of Michigan Tech tomorrow from 3-6pm.  The 31st Annual SafeHouse is being put on by residential students, the Inter-Residence Housing Council and the Department of Housing and Residential Life

Participants are asked to begin on the ground floor of Wadsworth Hall where there will be games, a professional photographer, mask-making and other fun activities.  Children can decide between “scary” or “fun” routes in each hall, and parents are expected to choose the appropriate route for their child’s age and interests.

Each participating house within the residence halls will have candy and other treats available for children.  All participants will receive candy and an LED safety bracelet, and game players have the opportunity to win toy prizes.

All SafeHouse events are free of charge.
