TRIAD Returning To Houghton & Keweenaw Counties

Seniors are often the victim of crime, fraud and other scams from people that see them as easy targets.

TRIAD is a collaboration of local seniors, senior programs and law enforcement that helps protect older residents from danger.

triadFormer chairperson and current historian of Baraga County TRIAD Oedith Harris said, “Seniors need help. We’re the fastest growing people in the country and we get the least attention. And so, we have to help ourselves.”

Baraga County has a TRIAD program but Houghton and Keweenaw Counties have been without one for several years.

That’s changing.

Harris said, “Baraga County TRIAD has been around for 15 years and, at that time, there was a TRIAD here in Houghton and Keweenaw County, and then it died out. So, now it’s coming back and I’m glad to see it come back. We need TRIADS everywhere.”

Any senior, 55 and over, can join TRIAD.  Simply contact the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP, 906-482-7382 ext 151) for more information.

TRIAD will be holding a conference May 11th at the Ojibwa Casino in Baraga.
