Treat Street Will Feature New Pumpkin Carving & Costume Contests

Shelden Avenue will be closed Saturday as Treat Street returns to downtown Houghton

The street will be filled with ghosts, goblins and all other manner of Halloween costumes from 4:00 to 6:00pm.

Traffic will be detoured down Lakeshore Drive to Quincy Street.

Free Trick-or-Treat bags are available at the City Center while supplies last.

Many downtown businesses will be helping to fill those bags with treats.

The City Center will host their annual haunted house as well.

New this year, music will be provided from Vinyl Truth, a record store opening up in the old Lode Theatre building.

A costume contest and pumpkin carving contest will be held under the Wells Fargo parking deck.

Decorated pumpkins must be delivered to the pumpkin table outside of the City Center between 2:00 and 4:00. They can be picked up after the contest or will be removed at 7:00 pm and composted.

The pumpkins will be displayed on the wall in front of the Wells Fargo parking deck.

There will be two categories: 12 and under, and over 12. Children 12 and under must have painted pumpkins, not carved. No pumpkins will be accepted after 4:00.

Prizes will be announced at 5:30 during Treat Street by the announcer near the stoplight.
