Transportation Plan Adopted By Hancock City Council

The City of Hancock adopted a non-motorized transportation plan at Wednesday’s meeting of the city council.

A presentation on the plan was given earlier in the meeting by Kristen Schmidt, a member of the city’s bike and pedestrian committee.

Schmidt said the aim of the plan was to provide a safe and efficient plan for bicyclists and walkers.

The city and MDOT have offered input on the plan, which has been in the works since 2013.

Mayor Lisa McKenzie called it an excellent plan, adding the committee has done a lot of work on it.

The council learned that it’s going to be a busy spring and summer at the Hancock Driving Park fields.

In addition to hosting girls’ softball and baseball districts, the park will be the site of the American Legion baseball zone playoffs July 19-22.

City manager Glenn Anderson said improvements at the fields were key in landing the events.

In other business, the council:
* Was given an update on work projects at McLain State Park.
* Set spring cleanup in the city for May 5-6.
* Learned that SEMCO Energy has proposed a rate increase for a 42-mile transmission gas main.
