Finishing touches are being put on a massive trades training facility in Marquette.
The Union Carpenters and Millwrights Skilled Training Center covers more than three-quarters of an acre. It will include areas for hands-on instruction, along with state-of-the-art classrooms.
Brian Kerrigan of the Michigan Regional Council for Carpenters and Millwrights says the goal is to match Upper Peninsula workers with more than 100,000 good-paying, available jobs in the state, starting by adding trained people to the union apprentice program.
The 10-million-dollar facility is one of several being built across the state. The initial training sessions will begin next month.
