Temporary Bridge To Be Built At Swedetown Creek

Crews are working on a bypass for the Swedetown Creek bridge on M-203, but the road won’t be open anytime soon.

The bridge was completely destroyed during the floods caused by the weekend storm.

Workers from the Michigan Department of Transportation will be putting in a temporary bridge over the creek, just east of where the former bridge used to be.

It will only have one lane but will provide a way for vehicles to cross while the main bridge is reconstructed.

It may take up to two weeks before the bypass is built, but it will likely be a couple of months before the road is fully open again.

Meanwhile, traffic must travel up US-41 through Calumet to access locations north of the bridge.

The Swedetown Creek bridge is just one location on M-203 that was damaged. MDOT says there are multiple washouts and parts of the road covered with mud that crews are working to clear.
