Michigan Tech will celebrate Homecoming this weekend.
This year’s focus is on the centennial year of Huskies football. The theme is “100 Years of Football: Black and Gold Never Gets Old.”
Other activities include…
• Cardboard boat races at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park today at 1:00.
• A cornhole tournament tomorrow morning at 10:00 at Lot 24.
• Dueling Pianos in the MUB Ballroom tomorrow evening at 9:00.
Tech will host Wayne State in the homecoming game tomorrow at 1:00. The homecoming tailgate begins at 11:00 in Lot 24. Homecoming royalty will be crowned at halftime.
Football alumni can take part in a golf tournament this morning, and visit the current team’s practice this afternoon. They’ll have dinner with the current team this evening, and enjoy a post-game reception tomorrow.
A book commemorating 100 years of Tech football has been produced, written by local historian Bill Sproule and Calvin Larson from the MTU Athletics Department. It’s available at the MTU Campus Bookstore, or online for a cost of $24.95. Printing costs were underwritten by a group of football alumni, so all proceeds from the book sale will benefit the football program.
It’s also family weekend at Tech, and local hotel rooms are filled with moms and dads.
Family weekend activities include Quincy Mine tours and fall color tours today and tomorrow, and a golf outing tomorrow morning.
