The Portage Lake District Library will offer children’s computer tablets for check out beginning Thursday, November 3, 2016. These devices are full-featured learning tablets built just for kids and are designed as learning tools, not just a toy. The Nabi Jr. tablet is for ages 3 – 6, while the Nabi Dreamtab tablet is for ages 6 – 9.
The Nabi Jr. comes preloaded with over 30 apps and games dedicated to reading, puzzles, counting, matching, first words, and more. Safety features built into the tablet ensure that children can only access safe and secure apps, as approved by library staff.
The Nabi Dreamtab uses the Dream Pro Studio, a powerful suite of creative tools that teach your children how to draw, animate, author their own books, and edit movies. Popular children’s games that help children develop problem solving skills and set goals, such as Minecraft, are also available on the device.
A set of two Nabi Jr. tablets are available for in-house use in the children’s section of the library. Patrons interested in checking out a tablet should request one from the library’s circulation desk.
