Local veterans hoping to get COVID-19 shots through the Oscar G. Johnson VA Center may need to wait a while.
Center director Jim Rice says his facility has received 1,200 doses of the Moderna vaccine. All have been either used or allocated to health care workers, Community Living Center patients and other high-risk veterans.
To meet the present criteria, veterans must be at least 85 years old, homeless, or a spinal cord injury, transplant, dialysis, oncology or other high risk patient.
Rice says there’s no reason to call – their staff is identifying patients who qualify, and contacting them as vaccine becomes available.
Veterans are free to obtain vaccines through other sources for which they may qualify. All vaccines are being provided at no charge.
