Suomi Restaurant Wins Best Pasty At Pasty Fest 2018

Who has the best pasties in the Copper Country?

For the second year in a row, Suomi Restaurant was voted the Pasty Fest Winner on Saturday in Calumet.

The 100 voting kits were sold out by 12:30pm as people cast their votes for either Suomi, Connie’s Kitchen, Mohawk Superette or Lindell’s.

Suomi wasn’t the only ones to repeat as champions–Jon Ziemba downed a pasty in 59.2 seconds to win the Pasty Eating Competition once again.

Winners for the Pasty Fest Parade in the Commercial, Non-Commercial, and Pasty Spirit have not been posted.

When not chomping on a pasty, folks were enjoying the beautiful weather as they browsed the 5th Street market and viewed the classic cars, while kids got lost in a sea of bubbles.

The Chocolay Raptor Center also gave a presentation at the Coppertown Mining Museum, complete with their three ambassador birds.

This year’s Pasty Fest also included kid’s games, the Keweenaw Time Traveler, the annual horseshoe tournament, disc golf, and a vote on whether pasties should be topped with ketchup or gravy (results not reported).
