The Portage Lake District Library’s 2019 Summer Reading Program will celebrate all things astronomical! This year’s theme, “A Universe of Stories”, will include 8 weeks of all-ages reading challenges, space related events, author talks, new recurring summer programs, and lots of prizes along the way. The Library will kick-off Summer Reading with a registration party on Saturday, June 22 from 10am – 3pm. Join library staff and community members for ice cream, live music, face painting, and space themed crafts and activities.
“This year, we are focusing our energy on bringing in more hands-on, experiential learning activities during the Summer Reading Program,” said Michael Stanitis, the library’s Program Coordinator. “Learning through doing has a lasting impact, and we’re thrilled to offer many space-themed events this summer that demonstrate our commitment to learning all summer long.”
New to the library’s Summer Reading Program this year is the ability for participants to register online. The new online registration portal will allow users to track their summer reading progress from a PC, laptop, or other mobile device.
Registration is open at the library all summer long. PLDL’s Summer Reading Program encourages reading for all ages throughout the summer with prizes and incentives along the way. Prizes this year include a free book, a day pass to the Michigan Tech SDC, and a $5 certificate to the Downtown Houghton Farmer’s Market. This year, the library will have additional prizes to raffle off to participants who finish the program at the end of Summer Reading party on August 10.
The Summer Reading Program is open to all ages, children through adults, and reading logs may include books, magazines, audio books, reading to young children, and being read to.
