Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post and four local grocery stores will be working together to host “Stuff A Blue Goose” charity events.
The events are being held in conjunction with the 2017 Michigan Harvest Gathering Campaign. The purpose is to raise hunger awareness and to provide food to local food pantries. This year is the 27th anniversary of this campaign which runs from October 23rd through November 3rd.
Troopers will be at Pat’s Foods in L’Anse, Econo Foods in Houghton, Pat’s Foods in Calumet and Louie’s Fresh Market in Lake Linden to assist in the collection of donated food items and to answer questions regarding the food drive. A “Blue Goose” patrol car will be at the sites to haul donated items to local food pantries at the conclusion of the events.
The events will be as follows:
Wednesday, October 25 from 11am to 2pm at Econo Foods in Houghton.
Thursday, October 26 from 10am to 1pm at Louie’s Foods in Lake Linden.
Saturday, October 28 from 10am to 1pm at Pat’s Foods in Calumet.
Saturday, October 28 from 10am to 1pm at Pat’s Foods in L’Anse.
All grocery stores will have either $5 or $10 grab bags available for the public to purchase and stuff in the “Blue Goose”. Each bag will be pre-filled with non-perishable food items worth $10 or more. Each grocery store is matching the grab bag purchase which will be donated to our local food pantries.
There is a significant need for food items in our local pantries and the participation and involvement from the public is greatly appreciated. Last year’s efforts collected 5,039 pounds. We are hoping to meet or exceed that this year. Come help us “Stuff A Blue Goose!”
