The 2016 Michigan Harvest Gathering Campaign in underway to raise hunger awareness and to provide food for local food pantries.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police were outside Pat’s Foods in L’Anse Saturday, where people could buy a bag of groceries which were then stuffed inside a patrol car, or Blue Goose.
Michigan State Police Trooper Patricia Butler of the Calumet Post—L’Anse Detachment said, “The Michigan State Police, we’re a community based agency. We are here for the people of the state of Michigan and our local communities are very important to us.”
The bags are pre-filled with groceries, with the store matching the monetary donation by basically doubling the amount of food purchased.
All the food goes to help hungry people in the local area.
Butler said, “Today, we already got one car already filled, so this food will stay in our local food pantry so people who are in need can have groceries during the winter.”
Additional “Stuff A Blue Goose” opportunities will be held at Econo Foods in Houghton Wednesday and Friday and Pat’s Foods in Calumet this Saturday.
Donations will be accepted from 11am to 2pm each day.
