Students Honor Vets Remotely

COVID-19 prevented some of our local schools from holding in-person Veterans Day programs yesterday, but that didn’t stop some from paying tribute.

Several schools saluted veterans via video programs. At Houghton High School, the band played patriotic music, and the colors were presented by a JROTC color guard. JROTC members shared messages of appreciation, including Cadet Major Alexis Babcock…

“They are willing to put their lives at risk to give us the opportunity to go to school, and be in sports. This isn’t something to be taken lightly, and their sacrifice and hard work should forever be honored on this day.”

Hancock students prepared a video with students and staff members talking about family members and friends who served…

(Several unidentified voices) “I would like to thank all the veterans that served our country. Today we celebrate you and what you have done for our country.”

The L’Anse School featured some of the district’s youngest members…

(Children singing) “Veterans, veterans, we love you, We thank you for your service, too.”

The videos were released on the schools’ Facebook sites.
