Strawberry Festival Honorees Announced

Lily Ashburn reigned as Queen over the 2019 Copper Country Strawberry Festival this weekend. Ashburn is a 2019 graduate of Houghton High School, and was sponsored by the Portage Lake District Library. Peyton Gast was named First Runner-Up. She’s a 2016 Lake Linden-Hubbell High School grad, and was sponsored by the Houghton Rotary Club. Vanessa Dulong was named Miss Congeniality. She’ll graduate from Hancock High School in the spring of 2020, and was sponsored by the Magnuson Hotel Copper Crown.

Other members of the court included Allie Virenius, Daityn Markham, Delaney Hird, Lillian Baker, Liz McCloskey, Marli Hietala, Rachael Hall, Raili Therrian and Sydney LaCourt.

Lois Berg was named Citizen of the Year. The Young Citizen of the Year was Wyatt Gerner. The prize winning Berries came from Henry and Cathy Ohtonen.
