“Stay Safe, Stay Open” Campaign Aims to Protect Local Business

You’ve heard the radio ads. You’ve seen the yard signs, posters and stickers.

The local “Stay Safe, Stay Open” campaign is based on the consensus that protecting ourselves and our neighbors from COVID-19 is the best way also to protect our local businesses…

“Us, kind of tackling this pandemic and keeping our community safe, allows our community economy to remain vibrant.”

That’s Brad Barnett of the Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau, who explained the program at a recent online Keweenaw Alliance Virtual Breakfast meeting.

It’s being supported by an alliance of businesses and organizations…

“…including the Portage Health Foundation, the Chamber, UPPCO, Northern Specialty Health, WUPDDR, an anonymous donor, and others.”

The alliance also produced a supporting video, with messages on point from community leaders, including Sheriff Brian McLean, MTU President Rick Koubek, MTU hockey coach Joe Shawhan, CCISD Superintendent George Stockero, state senator Ed McBroom and UP Health System-Portage CEO Ed Freysinger.
