Status Quo for Hancock Board of Ed Leadership

The Hancock School Board will keep its same leadership team this year.

At last night’s meeting, board members re-elected Dale Kero as President, Randy Hannen as Vice President, Kathryn Jordan as Secretary, and Wendy Chynoweth as Treasurer.

Superintendent Steve Patchin told us the board approved continuing the co-op high school football program with Chassell, Dollar Bay and Jeffers.

Both the middle and high schools have applied to become Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools. Patchin said the schools will work to make sure students with disabilities are routinely included in athletic and other events.

The board also learned that Barkell Elementary has teamed up with the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club to provide cross country ski instruction to students. Barkell is the only elementary school in the region with its own Nordic ski trail.
