State Police Crackdown On Failure To Stop For School Buses

Following numerous complaints of motorists putting children in danger, the Michigan State Police is cracking down on motorists passing school buses with the flashing red lights activated when children are being picked up and dropped off at bus stops.

Michigan law says motorists must come to a full stop not less than 20 feet from a school bus that has stopped with its red flashing lights on.

Motorists must not proceed until the bus begins moving again and the flashing lights have turned off.

Failure to follow the law will result in the driver being ticketed.

Troopers will increase patrols along roadways to ensure students are getting safely to and from school.

Any school bus violations observed by Troopers will be strictly enforced with zero tolerance.
