State Legislative Leaders to Discuss Economic Development in Houghton

A group of Michigan legislators has gathered in the Copper Country for two days of economic development discussions.

The focus will be on land-based industries.

Talks are scheduled to take place at the MTU Memorial Union Building this morning and tomorrow morning between 9 and noon.

Participants scheduled to be involved include Senator Ed McBroom of Vulcan, the chair of the Natural Resources Committee; Senator Ken Horn from the Saginaw area, the chair of the Economic and Small Business Development Committee; Senator Dan Lauwers from the Port Huron area, the chair of the Energy and Technology Committee; and Senator Wayne Schmidt from Traverse City, the chair of the Transportation, K-12, and Department of Education committee.

Local state representatives Greg Markkanen of the 110th House District and Sara Cambensy of the 109th House District will also take part.

All of the participants except Cambensy are Republicans.
