State Grant To Help Make Homes More Energy-Efficient

The Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region (WUPPDR) has received a $500,000 grant to help improve energy efficiency of homes in the area.

The money comes from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s Michigan Housing Opportunities Promoting Energy Efficiency program (MI-HOPE).

WUPPDR will use the funds for repair or replacement of roofs, windows, insulation, heating systems, and water heaters over the next four years for homes in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Iron Counties.

WUPPDR Executive Director Jerry Wuorenmaa said the grant money will help to upgrade homes at a time when the housing market has become very competitive in the region.
