State Grant to Boost Meadowbrook Arena

Meadowbrook Arena in L’Anse could soon be getting a big upgrade.

The state has approved a $150,000 grant to the village to help pay for new hockey boards and glass.

The award is one of 14 Recreation Passport grants announced Friday. It is the only project in the U.P. that was funded.

The money comes from the fees paid by motorists when they add a recreation passport to their vehicle license plate. Most of the funds raised help maintain state parks, but a portion is allocated to support local recreational efforts.
