Two online feedback sessions are scheduled, as the Michigan Department of Natural Resources updates its Management Plan for the U.P.’s state forests.
The draft plan for the next 10 years has been completed, and is available for review online. It addresses such issues as logging, hunting, fishing, trapping and public access and recreation.
In the western Upper Peninsula, the most significant areas of the Copper Country State Forest include the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, some scattered acreage in the Twin Lakes area and southern Baraga County, and a large portion of eastern Iron County. You can see a map here.
Comments can be registered at one of two web sessions, scheduled for December 11th from 3 to 4:30, and December 18th from 6 to 7:30. Written comments may also be submitted by email to ForestPlanComments@Michigan.gov by December 31st.
