Members of Northern Michigan University’s Technical, Office and Professional union are receiving raises earlier than they had anticipated.
At a special meeting last week, the university’s Board of Trustees approved a Memorandum of Understanding with UAW Local 1950 to accelerate the scheduled increases.
Around 70 percent of the union’s members will receive immediate bumps, with the lowest wage rising from $12.75 to $15.10 per hour.
The previous timetable would have seen that level reached July 1, 2025.
NMU vice president for Finance and Administration Gavin Leach said he believes the change will enhance NMU’s ability to attract and retain top employees in the local market.
