Snowmobiler Injured In Crash

A 65-year-old Ohio man is hospitalized after crashing his snowmobile Wednesday evening.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post say they were dispatched to Trail #23 in Schoolcraft Township near the Sawmill Road just before 7:00pm.

Authorities say the man was traveling northwest on the trail when he lost control during a left turn and crashed into a group of trees.

The driver was ejected from the snowmobile, sustaining injuries to his leg and hip area and was unable to stand or walk. He was able to call for help on his cellphone. Bootjack First Responders were able to transport him from the crash site and he was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance, where he was treated for his injuries.

Troopers say excessive speed was not a factor, but overdriving his capabilities and being unfamiliar with the trail appeared to have contributed to the crash. Alcohol or drugs were not involved.
