SmartZone Hires Marketing Manager

The MTEC SmartZone has hired a new Development and Marketing Manager.

Amanda Jackson is a Calumet native, with a degree in Graphic Communications from Northern Michigan University, and more than 14 years’ experience in marketing and grant writing in various fields.

HOUGHTON, MI – May 20, 2022 – Michigan Tech Enterprise Corporation (MTEC) SmartZone announces it has hired Amanda Jackson to their team as the Development and Marketing Manager. Amanda has a degree in Graphic Communications and over 14 years of marketing and grant writing experience in various fields including higher education, non-profit, retail, construction, and real estate.

The Upper Peninsula native from Calumet, MI joins the MTEC SmartZone team as the Development and Marketing Manager to continue the company’s success providing acceleration to high-tech Michigan business and building a prosperous economy for the area. Amanda’s role will include marketing duties, grant prospecting and writing for MTEC SmartZone clients and community partners, and development of relationships locally and regionally.

Amanda joins the team after working at Michigan Technological University for the past seven years, as both a Project Manager in the University Marketing and Communications department and as an Assistant Director in the Center for Educational Outreach department assisting with the Summer Youth Programs, Michigan Tech Mind Trekkers (a traveling STEM roadshow), and local college access outreach.

“As a Yooper, I am thrilled that this position will provide me the opportunity to utilize my skills to assist entrepreneurs as they launch and grow new businesses right here in our neighborhood and also benefit community partners,” says Amanda. She is very active within the community and is involved with the City of Hancock Parks and Recreation Commission, U.P. Health Systems Portage Board of Trustees, Western Upper Peninsula Food Bank and Community Action Agency, and has served as a board member and past president for Keweenaw Young Professionals. “I am only a few days into my new role and have already identified several grant opportunities that I am excited to pursue. I look forward to playing a role in the future success of MTEC SmartZone and its clients.”
