Small Business Saturday to Boost Local Economy

Local businesses are banding together to encourage residents to do as much Christmas shopping as possible in the Keweenaw this year.

The Keweenaw Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Small Business Saturday this Saturday. The Chamber’s Katie Schlief says their Welcome Center at Franklin Square in Houghton will be open from 9:00 until 11:00, with free doughnuts. Shoppers can pick up a booklet with coupons from more than 70 Houghton and Keweenaw County businesses…

Anything from 25 percent off entire purchases to buy-one-get-one. we also have some local restaurants putting in some half-off appetizers, so you can shop and eat at the same time.

Many of the coupons will be good through the end of the year. Shoppers may also enter to win a $100 Keweenaw Cash gift certificate.

In Baraga County, the Chamber office in downtown L’Anse will be open from 10:00 until 2:00, serving refreshments, handing out coupons, and offering chances to win prizes. Dianne Koskinen of the Baraga County Chamber hopes Small Business Saturday reminds people to shop local throughout the year.
