Skiers To Head To Swedetown Gorge

Spring is supposedly right around the corner, with the sounds of birds chirping and water flowing, but until it gets here, there’s still snow on the ground and plenty of opportunity to get out and enjoy it.

Stordahl, Wayne

The Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club is hosting its annual Glide N’ Gorge next weekend and everyone is invited.  “The Fundraiser is called the Glide N’ Gorge, and that means you ski in the Swedetown Gorge,” said club board member Wayne Stordahl.

The activity takes place on Saturday, March 3rd at noon on the Maasto Hiihto trail in Hancock. Cross country skiers, snow shoe hikers, and snow bikers will be starting their adventure at the Four Seasons Chalet on the Houghton County Fairgrounds, where they will enter the trail and then make their way along the Swedetown Creek Gorge.

Diebel, John

Treasurer John Diebel said, “We really want to introduce people to the Swedetown Creek Gorge, that is really just behind us here. We find that people still don’t know that this beautiful ski trail exists just right in their own back yard in Hancock.”

The activity will include eating stations throughout the 3.5 mile trail, including a bonfire pit and a soup and chili station. All ages are welcome, children are free and friendly pets are welcome as well.
