Seven Suspects Arrested In Drug Bust In Alger County

Seven people are in custody following an investigation by detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team in Alger County.

The suspects were arrested on Monday on various drug charges related the distribution of prescription pills. 

The investigation began in 2017 by detectives from UPSET and Homeland Security Investigations after bulk amounts of various prescription pills were seized by law enforcement as they were shipped through the United States Postal Service.

After a lengthy investigation, detectives identified several suspects in Alger County that received bulk amounts of illegal prescription pills after ordering them from foreign countries. 

Detectives assigned to UPSET along with various other law enforcement agencies arrested seven people from Alger County on charges related to delivery of prescription pills and utilizing a computer to commit a crime.

All seven suspects were lodged in the Alger County Jail. 

The investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are expected.

UPSET was assisted by members from Homeland Security Investigations, Alger County Sheriff’s Department, Munising Police Department, Michigan State Police Negaunee Post, Michigan State Police Hometown Security Team, and Sault Tribal Police.
