Michigan Senator Gary Peters has announced he has helped pass a bipartisan funding bill which addresses the growing concerns around the Coronavirus, which includes $14.5 Million in resources for Michigan.
The funding includes personal protective gear such as masks and gloves.
Reimbursement for state and local governments for detection and prevention efforts were also included.
Peters pushed for the funding, after a series of calls to various public health officials and hospitals throughout Michigan, to come up with a game plan to stop the spread of the virus, which has gained momentum, since it was discovered late last year.
“The Coronavirus is a threat we must be prepared to address, and that’s why I fought to secure needed federal resources for Michigan.”
In total, the funding package was $8.3 billion, which included $350 million for hot spot funding, which Michigan municipalities can apply for, should an outbreak occur, along with $100 million for Community Health Centers and funding to help develop a vaccine for the virus.
Peters has also met with officials from Homeland Security, to discuss stronger interagency responses to the crisis.
