A planned public hearing by the Portage Township Planning Commission regarding plans to base a seaplane business at the former Onagaming Yacht Club was postponed last night.
Illness threatened the commission’s quorum.
The proposal has generated opposition from some residents, who have voiced concerns about noise and disruption to wildlife in the area, which is adjacent to the Nara Nature Preserve.
The parcel on the Portage Canal is currently zoned for general business use, which would likely permit the seaplane base.
The hearing will be rescheduled next month. No specific date has been set.
