Schroeder Named Lumberjack Days Queen

Kianna Schroeder will reign as the 2023 Baraga County Lumberjack Days Queen.

Schroeder was crowned by 2022 Lumberjack Queen MaKayla Smith at the festival’s opening ceremony Monday evening.

Schroeder is the daughter of Dawn Jacobs. She is a 2023 graduate of Baraga High School, where she was an honor roll student, and participated in Student Council, Student Leadership of the Keweenaw, and on the volleyball team. She plans to study nursing at Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College this fall.

Shayla Elmblad was named First Runner-Up. She is the daughter of Suzie and Jar Elmblad, and is entering her junior year at Baraga High School.

Second Runner-Up honors went to Karissa Krajnak, the daughter of Nicole and Bryan Krajnak. She is a 2023 L’Anse High School graduate.

The Miss Congeniality award, voted on by the participants, went to Maleigha McKnight. She is the daughter of Brent and Jessica Kilpatrick, and will be a senior at L’Anse High School in the fall.

Other members of the court include Clare Demink, Morgan Fish and Sophia Rice.

At the ceremony, parade grand marshal Doreen Blaker was introduced. Blaker is the president of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Council, which has a long history of supporting the Lumberjack Days Festival, and other similar community events.

This year’s Princess is Amya VanDyke, who will be starting kindergarten in the Baraga Schools this fall. The Prince is Tyson Gerard, who will be entering second grade at Superior Hills Elementary School in Marquette this fall.

Lumberjack Days continued Monday evening with a street dance. The Tuesday schedule includes a pancake breakfast, children’s and adult parades, games, live entertainment, and fireworks over Keweenaw Bay. See the full schedule here.
