Safer Drop Off/Pickup Area Needed At Houghton Elementary School

A bond proposal will go toward making picking up and dropping off kids at Houghton Elementary School easier and safer.

Part of a $1.9 million project for the school, the parking lot and walkways would be renovated so parents can drop kids off behind the school using a newly constructed city road that would connect to Sharon Avenue.

Houghton Police John Donnelly says right now, there are times when the intersection of Military Road and Sharon Avenue becomes heavily congested.

The entrance to the new road would be across from River Valley Bank, if the bond is approved.
