Two road construction projects are getting underway in the local area.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $358,000 for railroad crossing approach work on US-41 in L’Anse and Bovine in Baraga County.
Work is scheduled to get underway Wednesday and will require single-lane closures with one alternating lane open under a temporary traffic signal.
MDOT says the project will result in a smoother driving surface and increase safety.
The project is expected to be completed by July 19th.
A second project will begin on M-26 near Copper Harbor in Keweenaw County on Monday, June 3rd.
MDOT-contracted crews will be completing a $153,000 maintenance project to remove and replace a deteriorated culvert about one a half miles west of the US-41/M-26 intersection.
M-26 will be closed 1.6 miles west of Copper Harbor and through traffic will be detoured onto US-41.
The project should be completed by Friday, June 7th.
