River Valley Bank Lead Dog Sponsor Again For CopperDog

River Valley Bank will continue as lead sponsor for next year’s CopperDog Sled Dog Races.

The CopperDog 150 and CopperDog 80 is a free annual event held in historic downtown Calumet the first weekend of March.

CopperDog, Inc. Board Chairman Brad King shared his appreciation for River Valley’s years of dedication. “CopperDog, Inc. is a non-profit run entirely by volunteers. It costs more than $80,000 each year to support the race events,” he shared. “The race would not be possible without River Valley. Not only is their monetary donation significant, their leadership is influential in encouraging other great area businesses to join the team and support the community.”

As lead sponsor, River Valley Bank will donate $10,000 to the race purse, plus recruit and manage numerous volunteers throughout race weekend.

The River Valley Bank Calumet Branch will also host a veterinary check-in and breakfast on Friday morning.

This is the 10th consecutive year that River Valley has taken the lead sponsor role.

A lead sponsor from the very beginning, River Valley Bank has shown their commitment to the race—and the community—since 2009. “River Valley recognizes the importance of this race in our community,” River Valley Bank Calumet Market Branch Manager Jamie Thyrion shared. “This race brings increased tourism and great exposure to our area and makes a significant economic impact.”

Since 2009, CopperDog, Inc. has organized the CopperDog 150 and CopperDog 80 sled dog races in the small town of Calumet positioned at the center of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The annual race is held on the first weekend in March and features teams of 10 dogs covering 150 miles in three days. The CopperDog 80 features teams of six dogs and covers 80 miles in two days. As one of the area’s largest community events, CopperDog runs with the help of more than 500 volunteers and attracts participants from around the globe.
