Ripley Native Joins Aspirus’ Family Medicine Team

LAURIUM, Mich. – Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics proudly welcomes Family Medicine Physician Katie M. Bittner, DO to its excellent team of medical providers. Dr. Bittner specializes in comprehensive and preventive care for the whole family, and she has special clinical interests in women’s health and osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT). She is now accepting patients at Aspirus Houghton Clinic in Houghton.

Dr. Bittner is originally from Ripley, MI and later moved to Ishpeming. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Midwestern University – Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine residency at Carle Foundation Hospital, where she was Co-Chief Resident. Prior to Aspirus, Dr. Bittner worked as a visiting clinical faculty member at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also worked as a home health aide for then Keweenaw Home Services in Calumet and Freedom Home Care in Highland Park, Illinois.

At the heart of Dr. Bittner’s care approach is listening to and partnering with her patients to help them achieve their health and wellness goals. She looks at the whole patient, taking into consideration any lifestyle or environmental factors that may affect their well-being, to determine the most effective care plan for the best outcomes.

“I like that there’s a palpable difference that I can make in someone’s day or someone’s life,” she said. “I enjoy listening to what my patients are saying and then finding creative ways to help them live life in the best way possible.”

Dr. Bittner is certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Program. Professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, and the National Honorary Osteopathic Fraternity (Sigma Sigma Phi).

She and her husband James are thrilled to be back in the Keweenaw because of its small-town friendliness and year-round outdoor recreation, particularly in the winter months. Dr. Bittner is excited to be at Aspirus, caring for patients and helping to make a positive difference in the community.
